Nice long Walk over the Costa del Sol
I was cold but sunny winter's day in the south of spain.
I had planed this hike before xmas but as the weather got worse i thought i would have to cancel it. Anyway that day was a wired break in the weather i had a chance of going to this hike. I live about one hour away in car form this route. I have done this route many time before but not like this. As we got closer to the starting point there we small pacths of snow on the side of the road which for the time of year and place was a bit out of place.
After got the mountain road to the starting point we hit a small problem that the road was closed about 8 km away from the starting point. We had to walk an extra 16km that day because of this as the road was iced over due to heavy snowfalls.
This route takes you to the highest point in the costa del sol (1912m) just over looking Marbella and on a good clear day you can see Gibraltar and even north afirca! It starts at a small cottage and there is two route going up to the 2nd valley. One takes you up an old moutain road and the other thru a dried up river bed (in this case a iced over river bed) in a wide canyon. I chose the canyon as it is the shorter of the two routes going up.
By the time we got ready to the next valley i had to turn around as time was not with us (due to the extra 8kms we did before getting to the cottage) so we had lunch in an old rufgur that seems to have been there for about 200 hurndred years when this used to be an old moutain pass to get to the next village over the mountians.
To cut it short i had a great day out hiking up the most breath taking back drop that you can see in the Costa Del Sol which is better know for its bars and beaches and playground for the rich and famous. But if you in the area just drive 20mins up the mountains and have a look what this small slice of spain has to offer.
